The Chelsea Sun Inn is proud of its own effort in preserving 350 acres of farmland - amongst the richest in America - here in Pennsylvania's Northampton County.
With more than 59,000 farms, comprising 7.7 million acres, production agriculture is recognized as an important part of the Pennsylvania marketplace, providing more than 84,300 jobs and $4.5 billion to the local economy. And the moderate climate enveloping our rolling terrain provides some of the best wine grape growing conditions on the East Coast. Pennsylvania, the 5th largest grower of wine grapes in the country, is unique in that there are no large wineries dominating the state's production statistics, as the vast majority of Pennsylvania wineries, by volume production, are very small. The state is the national leader in farmland preservation, counts 3,348 farms and 372,676 acres preserved through the application of conservation easements that ensure the rich, valuable soil will not be developed for real estate, commercial or industrial use.
